Eatson-Bisshop Civic Society
What & where is the Eatson-Bisshop Civic Society?
The Eatsons is a group of 3 villages in the English shire of HairyFudd - nestling between the Worcestershire Windy Hills and the Welsh Misty Mountains. Of the 3 villages (Lower-Eatson, Middle-Eatson & Eatson-Bisshop) the latter is home to the E-B CivSoc. The mandate of the E-B CivSoc is all-things pertaining to E-B.
Eatson-Bisshop
Of all the Eatsons, Eatson-Bisshop is the most notable - the other villages are widely regarded as Victorian-era spec-builds.
1) Where modern agriculture now ploughs the furrow, E-B was once a clearing in the vast Hay Forest which stretched all the way to Hay On Zed.
2) The ancient Camp: An iron-age site on a promontory overlooking a bend in the shallows of the Zed River. One day the Roman Army arrived. The Romans grew fruit & vines on the slopes of the camp. From where I sits you would have seen & heard the Romans sinistering & dextering along the narrow winding road at the foot of my garden.
3) A picturesque 14th century church.
4) Whilst Bunbury boasts Lady Godiva, E-B had it's medieval highpoint: the annual Lurping.
The Lurping
E-B is situated close to the southernmost tip of the ancient Ice Age glaciers. The soil is very fertile. E-B was once famous for it's ponds (created by the glacial melt). They were filled in by farmers long ago.

LURP is a local word for FROG. In spring the ponds were full of them.
The locals captured 6 male frogs each. The Lord of the Manor captured 36 female frogs. 6 lanes were built, a female frog at one end, groups of locals with their male frogs at the other. The winners were the frogs to get to the female first. The local with the most winning frogs was crowned 'The Easton-Bisshop Lurper'.
